Services

Psychiatric Services

Each service begins with a careful assessment. Treatment options are discussed with you and tailored to your individual needs.
01

Initial Psychiatric Consultation

A comprehensive assessment of your mental health, symptoms, history and current concerns, ending with a discussion of options and next steps.

Request an Initial Consultation

The consultation may include

  • Detailed psychiatric history
  • Current symptoms
  • Previous treatment
  • Medication review
  • Relevant physical-health considerations
  • Personal and social circumstances
  • Treatment discussion
  • Recommendations and next steps
02

Follow-Up Psychiatric Care

Follow-up appointments provide continuity of care after an initial assessment.

Enquire About Follow-Up Care

Follow-up appointments may be used to

  • Review progress
  • Monitor treatment
  • Review medication
  • Discuss new symptoms
  • Adjust treatment plans where appropriate
  • Coordinate ongoing care
03

Adult ADHD Assessment

A structured psychiatric assessment of attention, activity and impulsivity difficulties in adulthood. An assessment is not a guarantee of diagnosis — its purpose is to understand your difficulties accurately, including other possible explanations.

Enquire About ADHD Assessment

The assessment may involve

  • Clinical history
  • Developmental history
  • Current symptoms
  • Functional impact
  • Differential diagnosis
  • Review of relevant information
  • Discussion of treatment options where appropriate
04

Addiction & Substance-Use Psychiatry

Addiction can involve alcohol and drugs as well as behavioural patterns such as gambling. It often occurs alongside other mental-health difficulties, and assessment looks at the whole picture.

Discuss Addiction Support

Areas that may be addressed

  • Alcohol-related problems
  • Substance-use disorders
  • Behavioural addictions
  • Dual diagnosis
  • Relapse prevention
  • Co-occurring mental-health conditions

Neuropsychiatry

Neurological conditions — and complex physical illness more broadly — can be associated with changes in mood, anxiety, behaviour, thinking or perception. Specialist psychiatric assessment considers how brain, body and mind interact, and how psychiatric symptoms may best be managed alongside neurological care. Dr. Chandrappa's experience includes consultation liaison psychiatry at the interface between physical and mental health.

Neuromodulation

rTMS & ECT, explained simply

Neuromodulation treatments influence brain activity using magnetic or electrical stimulation. They are considered for specific conditions only after a full psychiatric assessment, and are not suitable for everyone. No treatment can guarantee a particular outcome.

rTMS

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

rTMS uses a magnetic coil placed against the scalp to deliver pulses that stimulate specific areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. It does not require anaesthesia, and people are usually awake and able to resume normal activities after each session.

In the UK, rTMS is most commonly considered for depression, particularly when other treatments have not helped enough. A course typically involves regular sessions over several weeks. Like all treatments, it has potential side effects — such as headache or scalp discomfort — and is not suitable for everyone.

ECT

Electroconvulsive Therapy

ECT is carried out under general anaesthetic and muscle relaxant. A brief, controlled electrical current is passed through the brain to produce a short seizure. It is delivered in specialist clinical settings by a trained team.

ECT may be considered for severe depression and certain other serious conditions, usually when other treatments have not been effective or when a rapid response is clinically needed. Potential side effects, including effects on memory, are discussed in detail as part of informed consent.

Dr. Chandrappa previously led an NHS ECT service. Where ECT may be relevant, a consultation can help consider whether a referral to an appropriate service is suitable.
